This article will walk you through setting up and enabling Merch products on your website, and adding them to your website. Below, you will find instructions in both textual and video format, as well as minimum resolution and aspect ratio for images required for Merch products.

Along with the set-up, we wanted to provide instructions on how to market your Merch products effectively. We did a dedicated Merch Workshop that covered this topic, and you can re-watch it here: All About Merch - Workshop

Art Storefronts Recommendation: We suggest launching your site with at least the following 3 merch products enabled:
  • Tote Bags
  • Phone Cases
  • Mugs
These 3 products have consistently been the 3 top selling merch products on the platform.

How to switch on Merchandise in your website

  1. Log in to your Site Manager and find your Art Print Store. By default, it is named Warehouse - Open Edition Prints.

  2. Clicking on the Art Print Store should take you to the products in the store. Please find and click on the Media tab.

  3. Underneath the Media tab, please find and click on the Merch  tab.

  4. Scroll down the page and you will see a list of all the Merch product types offered to you by Gooten. Each has a slider that can be set to On or Off. If set to On, that merch product type will be available on your website. If it’s set to Off the merch product type will not be available on your website.

  5. After you’ve selected which merch product types to turn On or Off, be sure you click the Save. DO NOT CLICK THE BACK BUTTON BECAUSE ALL THE WORK YOU COMPLETED WILL NOT SAVE.

How to Enable/Disable Merchandise on a Product level

There is a variety of reasons why you'd want to control which merchandise options would appear on each product. Main reason would be that not every image aspect ratio would be a good fit for certain Merchandise products. Luckily, you have the ability to enable/disable Merchandise on a product level, and select the options that are tailored to the product itself.

  1. Let's start in the Art Print Store's Products Tab.

  2. Here, you'll be able to select a product or a folder of products where you'd like to select available Merch media.

  3. On the product page, we'll need to click on the AVAILABLE MEDIA tab, and switch to MERCH

  4. Here, you can simply toggle on/off the Merchandise option you'd like to turn on/off

  5. If you'd like to enable/disable Merchandise products in a bulk, you can do that in a folder in your Art Print Store.

On the Art Print Store's PRODUCTS tab, you can select multiple images in a folder you'd like to enable/disable Merchandise options for.

  6. Once the products have been selected, we can click on the Bulk Edit option.

  7. This will pull up Bulk Edit Form, where you will have several options to select. We are looking for the last one, Edit Medium Availability. Selecting that option will open up two tabs. Art Prints, and Merch. We are looking for the Merch Tab

  8. Here, you can select which Merch Products you'd like to display for the products you have selected. Once the selection is over, please select BULK UPDATE option to apply the changes.

How to change your Merchandise Product Variants

Merch products come in a variety of options, different brands, sizes, colors, models... If you are looking to offer only a specific set of variants, for example only one brand of T-Shirts or only one size of Pillows Cases, follow the steps below.

  1. While you are in your Art Print Store, click on the Media tab > Merch tab, and then click the blue Edit link next to the Product for which you want to review variants. In this example, we will review different T-Shirt variants.

  2. This will take you to a new section, where you can start looking through all the variants of T-Shirts, by filtering the different Brands, Print Placements, Sizes and Colors.

Note: Different products have different filters. For example, on T-Shirts you can filter through different Brands, while on Tote Bags you can filter just through different Sizes.

  3. Let's say we want to disable all Black variants of the Bella + Canvas brand. Under Filter By Brand, we'll select Bella + Canvas, and under Filter by Color we'll select Black. Then click on Search.

  4. This will list out all the variants of Bella + Canvas in Black color:

  5. Here, we can use the Toggle All: Off button, to toggle off all variants of this brand and color, OR use the individual toggles next to a specific variant to toggle it Off/On.

  6. Here we will use the Toggle All: Off button to disable all black Bella + Canvas T-Shirts. This means that all of these variants will not be available on the product page for your buyers.

  7. By using the different filters, you can fine tune your offering to a specific brand, size, color, print placement.

How to Lock the Image Position on your Merchandise Products

Every Merch Product has an embedded image movement tool on the live site. This tool will allow your customers to resize, rotate and move the image in positions they prefer. However, you have the ability to pre-determine image position, scale and rotation angle, and take away the ability of the customer or site visitor to that, which ensures that the image will be printed the way you have intended it. You can do this with our Lock Image in a Position Tool, and it is done per product.

  1. Locate the Product you'd like to Lock Image in a Position for in your Art Print Store, and click on edit.

  2. Select the "Available Media" tab, and then select Merch

  3. Here you'll find a list of all enabled Merch Products that this particular product can be printed on. Next to every option, you will see the "Lock Image Position" link. Clicking on the link will take you to the Lock Image Position page.

  4. Here, you will be able to adjust the image on the selected Merch item preview. Once you are done, select Lock Current Variant. This will lock the image in a position and disable the image editing tool for merch on your website.

How to Set-up Merchandise as Independent Categories

If you’d like to separate your Merchandise products from Prints / Originals, then Art Storefronts has a guide on how to implement this. This strategy has a few benefits including:

  1. Merchandise preview in your product galleries
  2. A separate category makes it easier for your potential customers to find gifts and wearables

Merch Gallery Example:

Gooten’s Minimum Image Requirements

Not all images will fit in every merch product. To avoid products that don’t fit with your images, Gooten has provided a minimum image requirement in terms of dimensions for each merchandise. This will help you have images that will fit perfectly with the merch product.

How to Create Separate Merchandise Warehouses

For you to have multiple merchandise products as separate categories, the best way is to start with separate warehouses for each merchandise type. For the purpose of this tutorial, we’ll be using  Mugs  as an example.

  1. Log in to your Art Storefronts Site Manager and click on the button labeled +Add Page. This button is designed to allow you to create new pages on your Art Storefronts website.

  2. A new window will pop-up and offer you several options. The first thing you need to do is provide your new page a Name. This name will be visible to your customers, so make sure it is concise and matches the flow of the rest of your site. In this case, we’ll name ours, Mugs Store.

  3. After that, we need to move down to the section labeled Type of Page. Here, look for the option labeled Store and click on the circle next to it to make sure it is selected.

  4. Once you’ve reviewed all the information you entered and you have made sure you must correct page type select, click on the button labeled Create.

  5. You’ll then be taken to a new page where you are offered a few options. Make sure you have selected the item labeled Art Print Store. After that, click on the button labeled Create.

  6. The website will then load a new Art Print Store. This can immediately be used with your website.

  7. In your Art Print Store, underneath the Media tab, you will see two options; Art Prints and Merch
    1. Underneath the Art Prints tab, please toggle Off all media types under Bulk Actions.

    2. Under the Merch, please toggle all other options Off and toggle On the specific merchandise type of your choice. For this tutorial, we’ll choose Mugs.

    3. Don’t forget to Save the changes.

  8. Once the changes have been made, please go to the Products tab and upload your images.

How to Create Independent Merchandise Galleries

We have successfully added the products in your store. We need to create a new Product Gallery page to ensure that your product is visible to the public.

  1. Log in to your Art Storefronts Site Manager and click on the button labeled +Add Page. This button is designed to allow you to create new pages on your Art Storefronts website.

  2. In the Name section of the new window, you need to provide a name to your category. This name will appear on your live site, so you need to make sure it is spelled properly and is clear and concise. You want customers to look at this and know more or less what is contained in the category itself.  In our case, we’ll name ours, Mugs.

  3. Type of Page is the next option on the page. You MUST select the option labeled Product Gallery. If you choose any other option, you will not create the page properly and you will have to redo the process.

  4. When you’re sure the field has been completed appropriately, you can click on the button labeled Create.

  5. You’ll be taken to a new page and presented with multiple options. You need to select the option under Recommended labeled Specific Products then click on Create.

  6. A new page is going to load, and this is your new Product Gallery. Look and make sure you are on the tab labeled ADD/REMOVE PRODUCTS.

  7. The first section you’ll see is Search For Products with several drop-downs. You can use the following:
    1. Filter By Store: This allows you to choose which Store on your site you want the images to be populated from.
    2. Filter By Category: In addition to filtering by Store, if you’ve created a folder within the store, you can select them from this drop-down
    3. Filter By Keyword: You can use this if you’ve tagged images with specific keywords - THESE ARE NOT THE META KEYWORDS.

  8. In our specific scenario just for this tutorial, we just filter the Store and find our Mugs Store.

  9. Scroll down the page until you see the images that have been populated. You can put a checkmark next to the images you want to put in this category OR you can Bulk Select every image if you want it in this specific category.

  10. When you’ve selected the appropriate images, click the button labeled ADD SELECTED.

  11. Move to the top of the page and click on the tab labeled VIEW & SORT PRODUCTS.

  12. Once you are done with the changes, please click on Preview Site to view your newly created product gallery.

  1. I don’t see sliders for merch product types on my site.
    1. If you aren’t seeing these sliders, you may be on the wrong tab or you may not be connected to a fulfillment vendor. First, try making sure you’re on the tab labeled Merch.
    2. If you are on the Merch tab, scroll down and see if you have the sliders. If you don’t, you aren’t connected to a vendor. Email and they’ll be able to resolve this for you.
  2. My changes to the sliders won’t save.
    1. You likely need to use an approved browser. If you’re using anything other than Firefox or Chrome, you should stop and use either Chrome or Firefox.
    2. If you’re using an approved browser, you may need to clear your cache. Check out how to clear the cache by using the article on How To: Clear your Cache.
